Dr. Slaby is a Senior Scientist at both Education Development Center in Newton, MA and the Center on Media and Child Health at Children’s Hospital / Harvard Medical School in Boston.  A developmental psychologist, innovative research investigator, and educator, Dr. Slaby has played leadership roles in shaping several national agendas to prevent youth violence prevention and enhance educational uses of media.  He co-authored a first national plan for preventing violence in America for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, co-wrote two national reports on violence and youth for the American Psychological Association, and contributed to several worldwide initiatives to develop and disseminate effective violence and bullying prevention programs for families, educators, criminal justice agents, and health professionals.  While serving as Associate Professor, Lecturer, and National Merit Fellow at Harvard University, Dr. Slaby created innovative courses in Growing Up in a Media World and Preventing Violence in America, the nation’s first university course devoted to entirely to the prevention of violence.  As Education Director for the U.S. Department of Education's National Center for Drug Prevention and School Safety Program Coordinators, Dr. Slaby co-developed and personally delivered core training, continuing education, and leadership institutes to more than 1,200 Prevention Coordinators.  His books and educational programs include:  Social Development in Young Children;  Aggressor, Victims, and Bystanders;  Viewpoints;  Early Violence Prevention; and Eyes on Bullying. For his distinguished contributions to the field of Educational Psychology, Dr. Slaby has been honored and was elected Fellow by the American Psychological Association.
